30 October 2016: For an operating site, there is often no shortage of data. But how can a site harvest the data and harness the insights into profits? CRC ORE is working with participants and their big data to support a new breed of models for the minerals industry.

The Integrated Extraction Simulator (IES) is a cloud-based platform for modelling and simulating mining and minerals processes. It provides the ability for interconnectedness with other systems – repositories of functionality and data that be used to feed models used in simulations.
Operating sites have systems for:
- Materials (rock and mineral test work and characterisation).
- Maintenance (key events and changes in equipment setup, i.e. replace worn mill lifters and grates, cyclone spigots, cleaning of flotation cell aspiration systems, etc).
- Plant performance (data historian containing operating settings and conditions)
CRC ORE is building for the future where structured analysis and transformation of such data can be seamlessly linked with IES in the form of machine learning models that continue to evolve and improve over time.
Initially, sites will be able to model and simulate past performance and try alternatives in the search for operating settings that would have provided better outcomes. The approach will allow planners and operators to apply those learnings in future decision making. More importantly however, over time sites will be able to continually test and improve the performance of the models or find alternative models that have better predictive capabilities for certain operating conditions or different ore types. There is no limit to the number of models or data that can be used by IES to support decision making.
CRC ORE and its Participants are looking forward to bringing these established technologies to the minerals industry to enhance performance and profitability.
